The Forensic Submissions Unit is responsible for the authorisation and recording of all exhibits sent to an external Forensic Service Supplier.

The Unit has expanded over the years and now includes, two Forensic Screening Officers with scene examination experience, who are responsible for the authorisation of exhibits and an administrative team of five people who provide an initial screening service for exhibits ensuring they are correctly packaged and appropriately documented.

Once exhibits are authorised for forensic examination, they are brought to the Unit and transported daily by courier to various forensic laboratories. This process has improved the effectiveness of the Force by reducing the time spent by officers going to forensic laboratories.
